uAvionix Australia is uAvionix USA here in Australia! uAvionix designs and manufactures Automatic Dependent Surveillance Broadcast ( ADS-B) sense and avoid avionic products for Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs), airport Surface Movement Vehicles and General Aviation. uAvionix Australia is very excited with the level of interest and looks forward to supporting the UAV and aviation industries with this disruptive technology.

uAvionix Australia has been working in collaboration with Air Services Australia (ASA) and the Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) during the past year testing and developing our products for the various Australian environments.

Testing of the ping20S ADS-B transponder and the FYXnav-B GPS navigation source with integrated barometer for use by the UAV sector has delivered positive results. CASA currently has no rule set for UAV Part 101 aircraft avionics equipment standards. However, CASA has provided support for the fitment of the ping20s and FYXnav-B to UAVs by stating “that it would not be a breach of Civil Aviation Order 20.18 requirements if a uAvionix ping20s and FYXnav-B combination is used in an aircraft to which CASR Part 101 applies”.

There are immediate major safety advantages for the fitment of the ping20S and FYXnav-B combination to UAVs. When programmed with the UAV’s unique ICAO 24 bit address the ping20S provides traffic awareness to any manned aircraft equipped with a traffic collision avoidance system. It also enables electronic identification by the public and other airspace users.

Additional sense and avoid capability can be achieved with the integration of the pingRX when fitted to approved UAVs. The pingUSB or pingStation ADS-B receivers enhance UAV operator awareness of manned aircraft fitted with ADS-B and will also aid UAV pilots when operating beyond visual line of sight.

Testing of the Vektor ADS-B airside Vehicle Tracking Unit for use by airport Advanced- Surface Movement and Guidance Control Systems (A-SMGCS) has also produced positive results. In fact, from November Vektor will fully comply with CASR Part 139 MOS para 10.9.4. This will be the only fully compliant A-SMGCS product in the world and cheaper than its non-compliant competitors.
